Situated on a half-acre homesite within the gated community of Brimhall Estates, this approximately 5,000-square-foot French Country residence was designed as a home where gracious entertaining and everyday family living exist in equal measure. Designed by architect Paul Skarphol and built by Sweaney Custom Homes, the residence reflects the timeless character of French Country architecture through authentic proportions, carefully crafted detailing, and a thoughtful relationship between interior living spaces and the surrounding landscape.

French Country Architecture

Steep rooflines, traditional shutters, refined masonry detailing, handcrafted millwork, Jerusalem stone surfaces, and coffered ceilings accented with stained wood beams establish an architectural language rooted in the enduring traditions of the French countryside. Throughout the home, disciplined proportions and authentic materials create interiors that feel warm, elegant, and timeless rather than trend driven.

The floor plan was carefully organized to balance formal entertaining with comfortable family living. A gracious formal dining room connects to the chef’s kitchen through a traditional butler’s pantry, while an expansive radius entertaining bar creates a natural gathering place between the kitchen, family room, and adjacent living spaces. One of the home’s defining features is its rare walkout basement entertainment level—a distinctive architectural solution seldom found in custom homes throughout the region. Designed as an extension of the home’s entertaining spaces, the lower level includes a game room and a temperature-controlled walk-in wine room before opening to a private lower courtyard. From there, a stair ascends to the adjoining side courtyard, creating a layered sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces that connects multiple levels of the home while preserving privacy and architectural continuity.

Working within Paul Skarphol’s established architectural language, Todd Sweaney designed an architecturally integrated outdoor entertainment pavilion featuring an open-air bar, changing room, bathroom, and stained wood post-and-beam trellis structure.

Rather than appearing as a later addition, the pavilion was carefully composed to feel as though it had always been part of the original design, extending the French Country architecture naturally into the landscape while creating an exceptional setting for entertaining beside the pool.

The residence is organized around a series of thoughtfully connected outdoor rooms. A private side courtyard, accessible from the family room, primary suite, and the walkout basement via the adjoining lower courtyard and stair, is centered around a fountain and serves as a quiet garden retreat filled with natural light and privacy. Beyond, a rear courtyard with an outdoor kitchen overlooks the pool and entertainment pavilion, creating a second destination dedicated to recreation, entertaining, and relaxed outdoor living.
